Local Guide

Getting to Know Radnorshire

Where are you located?

Fforest Fields is in Radnorshire, on the Eastern side of Mid Wales, in fantastic rolling hills with walks in all directions.  It is easy to get to from all directions, we are just 4-miles from Builth Wells which sits on the Wye.

Do you allow dogs?

Yes dogs ABSOLUTELY LOVE Fforest Fields.  They can jump in the lake, sniff through the woods and enjoy sleeping beside you as the fire crackles away. We say 2 well behaved dogs per pitch.  We can be more flexible on that between November - April, please get in touch if you'd like to bring more than 2-dogs.

What is the atmosphere like on site?

Can I use the lake for swimming and paddleboarding?

Yes get out there and enjoy, please follow suitable precautions.

What facilities are on the campsite and farm?

The campsite and yurts sit at the heart of our 500-acre farm, with Ffynnonau Cottage on one of the outer edges. There are a myriad of tracks and trails across the farm and heaps of places to explore and discover.

Our facilities are modern and kept super clean, there are plenty of free showers, a washing up room, laundry, drying room and a seasonal coffee shop and bar on site.  We also have an honesty shop stocked with essentials and local meats, eggs and honey.

We have two lakes for you to enjoy, one for swimming, paddling and honey pot making. The other for fishing or simply sitting beside and watching the world go by.
There is a look out to find, a meditation hut to recharge in and oodles of space to just enjoy being out and about in the fabulous Radnorshire countryside.

Is there a quiet time and noise policy?

We ask everyone to be nice and quiet on site after 11pm and during the night. Please also try to keep things quiet before 7.30 am, although we know that can be more tricky with little kids. There are plenty of walks and adventures off the campsite and on the farm for early risers.

I’m afraid we ask for no music on pitch. While this may set alarm bells ringing for some of you, we promise we’re doing it for all the good reasons. Noise travels in this rural place and what may be the best playlist ever to you, is not necessarily the taste of your neigbours! We get lots of comments about how people usually have music playing on pitch, but really didn’t miss it. Try it, we think you’ll love the noise of the campsite and our fab Radnorshire wildlife!

Can I be beside my friends?

Yes! We have lots of places that are good for friends together. We also don’t pitch different units separately, so you can be by campervan friends if you are in a tent for example.

Please Note For Groups: We have capped groups at 3 units together for 2024. Pop the details on your booking and we’ll find you the perfect spot together. We are strict only 3 together rule. Please understand our reasoning and don’t try to subvert it by creating separate groups who are actually all together. If we see that happening on site we will likely ask you all to leave. We will review this in 2025, because we have had so many happy groups here over the years, but we’re keen to pause it for a year at least.

Do you allow day visitors?

Only if they are visiting friends staying on site, maximum 5 people. We charge £5 per person and £5 for the car, and you can be on site from 10am to 5pm. Please register your car at reception.

What is Radnorshire like?

Mid Wales is a vast, beautiful and often overlooked region of Wales. We sit in the east, boarding Herefordshire in the old county of Radnorshire. This is a land of great opportunity for those who like adventure and discovering the array of fantastic places around here to visit.

We have fabulous seasons, from the depths of winter with its dramatic darkness and cold nights to the height of summer when the whole place feels completely alive with activity.

This is a rural area and visitors enjoy spending a large portion of their time on our farm, the trails and in the wonderful lake. For those that like to get out and explore there is endless opportunity to find hidden gems amongst these hills and valleys. Enjoy!

How long have we been running a campsite?

We’ve 30 years as a campsite, but we’re now four generations on this land. We love it here and take huge pleasure in sharing it with you! Come and be part of the story!

What is our Story & Ethos?

We call it Common Sense Camping. Find out more on our campsite, yurt and cottage pages.

Why do people love it here?

We think it’s the water! We get it from our own supply and it’s a fresh as can be! Drink it to your heart’s content, shower in it, jump in it – it’s the good stuff!

Families, friends, lone travellers and everyone in between have been coming here to enjoy the tranquil space and feeling of being away from it for 30 years. We love meeting you and running this place, we want you to have a great time here and we’ll do everything we can to put a smile on your face!

We are as clear as we can be on our guiding ethos and quiet time rules, we think that makes a difference too. There is always a great atmosphere on site, wether there are 3 of you in driving rain or 100 happy holiday campers basking in the sunshine!

Who might not like it?

Those that want to stay up and have a bit of a party. We get it but...if you’re super noisy and like a few too many while camping you may feel that we are getting at you a bit! There are many fabulous campsites out there, we may just not be the one for you.

We are a rural spot, it’s 4-mile to the nearest town (Builth Wells), so if you are looking for lots of entertainment and shops in easy walking distance this probably isn’t the spot for you – this time! 🙂

How much does it cost?

Please see our Rates 2024.

Are you open all year?

Yes, all year!

Is there a minimum stay?

Campsite

You can drop in for one night from October to April.

In the summer we ask for 2-nights minimum from May, then 3-nights minimum from July to August. This works best for us and allows everyone staying to have some time with their feet on the ground here.

Yurt

2, 3, 4 or 7 night stays only. Friday and Monday arrival days.

Cottage

3, 4 and 7 nights stays until summer then minimum 7 nights

Can I drop in without booking?

Yes, between October and April it’s absolutely fine to drop in without booking. We have good availability in the mid weeks from May to July, so usually a drop in mid week is absolutely fine too. If you are trying at the weekend then chances of getting a space can be slim.

Do you ask for a deposit?

Yes please, we take 30% deposit when you book.

When is my final balance due?

The remainder is due a month before you stay.

What are the terms and conditions?

Please see them here.

Can I charge my electric car on site?

I’m afraid not as we don't have metered electric points. Please use the charging stations in Builth or Llandrindod.

Do we have more accessable facilities/pitches?

Yes, please read our Access Statement.

Can I requests a specific spot on the campsite?

You can pop it onto your notes when booking. We don’t reserve specific pitches, but it gives us a chance to work with that knowlege on the day you arrive.

Are Campfires and BBQs permitted?

You are welcome to bring your own firepit or bbq. Please make sure they are kept off the grass and that they don’t scorch it. We have thermalite bricks by reception to use to protect the grass if you are worried.

Please follow sensible fire safety precautions and be extra cautious during dry spells.

You can hire a firepit from reception, they are £5 per night up to £15, so if you have it for a week you are only paying the £15. We also have a stock of firewood and kindling.
